I’ve been making weekly blog posts for about 5 weeks now. It’s been a good experience for me so far, but while for the first 3-4 weeks I appreciated the structure of having a weekly writing schedule, I’ve already started to get tired of that structure. 😄
I’m still passionate about sharing my ADHD exp, though, and I still want to publish something each week, but I’m growing tired of taking the time to write something every single week.
So, what to do?
Do I shrug my shoulders and give up on the whole thing, and decide I’m not cut out for this?
No.
Ok then, do I double down, ignore my fatigue, and push myself to stick to the schedule?
Also no!
I’m going to change-up my play style. 😎
New Plan, Same Strategy
Those of us playing on ADHD-mode often can’t rely on using the same trick or tool over and over again, and many of us can’t stand having an inflexible, repetitive schedule. It can be a bit paradoxical because we do benefit from having a certain amount of routine so that we don’t have to expend as much energy thinking through all the minutiae of the everyday.. but we also crave novelty and get bored.
So, to keep what I enjoy about writing while changing up the elements I’ve gotten tired of, I’m trying something new!
My original plan was to write one post each week between Monday and Wednesday. At the time I’m starting to write this, though, I actually just finished up my last post about an hour ago. The plan is to write two posts this week so that I can take a break next week, and have more time for other things.
Perhaps I’ll find that writing two posts every other week suits me better than writing one every week, or maybe it’ll just be something I need to do every once in a while. Or maybe it won’t even work out the way I’m hoping it to this first time. The exact nature of how I achieve my goal doesn’t really matter as much as the fact that I actually achieve it.
While my specific plan is changing, my strategy has always been to change and adapt.
It’s nice to have a template, but if the parameters I set for myself aren’t helping me, then it’s time to try a new approach.
Afterall, a solution doesn’t have to be perfect and it doesn’t have to be used forever for me to use it today! The best solution.. is the one that works.
A willingness to explore, try out new ideas, and bring creativity and playfulness to my problem-solving has gotten me farther than sticking to one strategy ever could.
So, whenever I find a strategy isn’t working for me, I find it good to remind myself that life is an open-world game.

There’s no one right way to do things. It’s more important to change and adapt than it is to follow some silly convention or plan. 😊
